about

Gorgeously rendered trips down memory lane. The beauty of modern technology is that you can go back and make everything sound as it was intended. The circa-1986 songs are energetic, melodic, tuneful, energy-up. This genre would be, I guess classic midwestern punk rock, if that’s not an oxymoron. “Ronald Reagan Is A Dick!” Don’t dance the poot. Righteous. “People On Drugs” gets one hell of a retrofit, with booty bass drums and autotune vocals. And there’s a whole current of anti-jock rhetoric, which amuses me to no end. (Ian C. Stewart)

Thank you to the following participants and supporters of TEENAGE SLOTS (ladies; I used your maiden names (or names you went by in 1986) because that's how I remember you from 25 years ago) - Evan Peta, Michael Myers, John McLaird, Jon Scott, Jason Scott, Paul Caporino, Ken Nelson, Scott Johnson, Todd Johnson, Dave Johnson, Susan Johnson, Jeff Ashby, Brad Bennett, Channing Roos, Carrie Thomas, Christianne Case, Beth Zens, Charlotte Fulmer, Shelia Lesser, Debbie Krietlow, Kelly Matthews; and even though we hadn't "officially" met in 1986, thank you and love to Solvei for putting up with my expensive and time-consuming "hobby" for over 22 years (and counting, if I'm lucky). For the inevitable people I missed on this list, I'm sorry. My memory is shit. Help! We're old! It's horrifying!

These songs were all originally written and recorded by me in my bedroom on West 11th Avenue in Mitchell, SD in 1986 (with the exception of "Wanna Be", which was written by Evan Peta; an early temporary member of TEENAGE SLOTS). Teenage Slots eventually played 3 live shows, all in Huron, SD, with Michael Myers on drums and John McLaird first and Jon Scott later on Bass.

We used to practice at Jason & Jon's house on 9th & Duff, which is where a lot of you Mitchell people may remember seeing us. I remember 1986-1988 and all of you fondly as one of the most exciting periods of my life (so far). We WERE Mitchell, South Dakota's first punk band after all! Thank you in particular to those of you who have given me so much support on facebook in the last year. You got me through a rough year, and I am truly grateful!

This CD was recorded in our apartment in Sioux Falls, SD between October 6th 2010 and January 21st 2011.Production assistance, final mix, and mastering by the incredible Mike Dresch at Cathouse Studios, Sioux Falls.(www.cathousestudios.com). Thanks Mike, you've earned some Chinese food and a trip to Disneyland.

I hope this CD helps you regain a little bit of that spirit of '86, when we were all young, stupid, fearless, romantic, and out of our fucking minds!Oh, and thanks to all those asshole jocks in high school who inspired some of this music. Even YOU were integral...jerks! it's okay, they're all bald now.

These songs originally appeared on the following TEENAGE SLOTS tapes : 01,02,03,07,08,09,and 10 were on "Respect Us Or Die"; 06 was on "Pagan Dances With Paul Simon"; 12 was on "Hallucinations Of Helen"; 11 was on "MAXIMUMROCKANDROLL Won't Review This Either"; 04 and 05 were on "Better Than Hendrix?".
